DACO Shutter:

I've found the perfect shutter device for the Cookbook camera. The Chesser Shutter is a great innovation, but the meter movement is too large to fit into a standard Cookbook body. Also the modification to the movement is delicate and difficult. While recently working on a friends ST6 I found what I believe to be the ideal solution. DACO Industries, a manufacturer of miniature rotary solenoids used to activate warning flags in aircraft instruments, supplied the shutter mechanism for SBIG. I contacted DACO industries and found that they do indeed supply SBIG's shutter device and are willing to sell these to individuals in small quantities. After receiving a shutter device from DACO, I believe the long search for the perfect shutter is over.

The DACO solenoid operates on 12VDC. I modified the circuit for the Chesser Shutter by changing a resistor, adding a diode and tying the solenoid to the unregulated +18V power supply.

The datasheet for the DACO shutter is a 214K JPEG image. If you print this image you can check the dimensions of the solenoid and flag assembly to see if it will work in your camera. What the datasheets don't show is a very nice mounting bracket the solenoid snaps into. This bracket can be glued to the inside wall of the camera with Silicon rubber and the shutter can be installed without making any modifications to the camera body (no drilling holes).

This shutter works great. Now my CB245 sounds like an ST6.
